What is a body composition scale?

A body composition scale is a weighing scale that provides multiple measurements giving you a clearer image of body health that simply taking a weight cannot provide. All Marsden body composition scales are Class III Approved.

Body composition scales use bioelectrical impedance to estimate the fat content of your body. When you step onto the scale, a very safe and very small electrical current passes through your body. Electrical current flows through water, fat, and muscle mass at different speeds, and therefore the scale can calculate how a body is composed of these elements based on the speed of the current.

What readings do Marsden body composition scales provide?

Marsden Body Composition Scales have been updated for 2019 and now provide even more body composition measurements. This scale now provides the following readings: Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR), Total Body Water (TBW), Fat-Free Mass (FFM), Fat Mass (FM), Body Fat Percentage, Muscle Mass (MM), Protein Mass (PM), Extracellular Water (ECW), Intracellular Water (ICW), Skeletal Muscle (SM), Visceral Fat Area Level (VFA), Metabolic Age (AGEM), Weight and BMI. The scale will also give you an overall health score.
